MISSION STATEMENT

To create safe and comprehensive opportunities that promote individual growth, environmental appreciation, community spirit and enhances the overall quality of life.  Opportunities are offered in the areas of athletics, instructional classes, summer camps and special events.  Creekside Park, located in the James City area of New Bern, is open year-round from dawn to dusk and offers citizens opportunities to participate in many active and passive recreational pursuits.

Youth Karate Classes

Karate classes are available for ages 4-17.  The classes are being held on Tuesdays at H J MacDonald Middle School.  They are 7:00-7:30 for ages 4-6 and 7:30-9:00 for ages 7-17.  The fee for Karate Classes is $20.00 per month for ages 4-6, and $30.00 per month for ages 7-17.  If interested, please return payment and registration form to the Craven County Recreation and Parks Department.

YOUTH BEGINNER/INTERMEDIATE TENNIS LESSONS

Craven County & City of New Bern Recreation & Parks Departments is sponsoring youth beginner/intermediate lessons beginning June 13th. Classes will be held at West New Bern Recreation Center's tennis courts. Classes will be Mondays and Wednesdays from 4:30-5:30 pm. Cost per session will be $35.00 for six classes. To register, send registration form and fee to CCR&PD.

CAMP YESTERYEAR

Craven County Recreation & Parks Department and the Tryon Palace Historic Sites & Gardens are sponsoring a history camp for incoming 4th & 5th graders. The camp will be June 6-10 at the Tryon Palace Historic Sites and Gardens. Camp hours are 9:00am - 12:00pm. Campers will learn aspects of colonial living from the staff at the palace. Space is limited to the first 25 campers to register. Cost for the camp is $80.00. To register, send registration form and fee to CCRPD.

Senior Archery

Classes are offered for seniors over 55 at Creekside Park every Thursday.  No charge.  Call for times.

30 & Over Basketball

Anyone 30 years and older who wishes to play basketball should meet at the H. J. MacDonald Gym on Monday from 7-10 p.m.  There is a charge of $1.00 per night.  Proof of age is required.

MEET ME AT THE PARK (TENNIS)

Craven County Tennis Association is sponsoring "Meet me at the Park tennis on Mondays at 6:30 pm. The program is an organized match play for all ages at West New Bern Recreation Center. A great way to find new tennis challenges. There is no fee to participate. For more information, call Billy Wilkes at 636-6606.

Craven County Recreation & Parks Department is now sponsoring adult golf lessons at Carolina Pines. Three sessions will be offered the first three Mondays in  August. Registration is $30.00. To register, send registration form and fee to CCR&PD.

Craven County Recreation and Parks Department is now offering discount tickets for Kings Dominion and Carowinds. Ticket prices and dates are now available. Call 636-6606 for more information.
