MISSIONThe mission of CARTS is to provide transportation services, within its capabilities, to the general public with special emphasis on the provision of such services to the elderly and/or handicapped residents of Craven, Jones and Pamlico counties.
The system operates a fleet of 32 vehicles, including 12 specially modified vans to accommodate the elderly and/or handicapped, 12 standard vans, 4 mini-buses and 4 sedans.
Scheduled route structures are currently based on the requirements of the Human Service Agencies served by the system (i.e. Social Services (DSS), Coastal County Enterprises (CCE), Port Human Services, Senior Citizen's Centers, Work First, etc.).
The service is available to the general public on a space available basis for fares ranging from $1.00 to $6.75 according to zoned distances. Demand/Response service is also available to the public on a limited basis, again with emphasis on the elderly and/or handicapped.

Advance notice is required to schedule service. The minimum notice to schedule service is no later than 12:00 noon 2 business days prior to the trip.
