Question: What is GIS?
Answer: "A geographic information system (GIS) integrates hardware, software, and data for capturing, managing, analyzing, and displaying all forms of geographically referenced information.
GIS allows us to view, understand, question, interpret, and visualize data in many ways that reveal relationships, patterns, and trends in the form of maps, globes, reports, and charts.
|"A GIS helps you answer questions and solve problems by looking at your data in a way that is quickly understood and easily shared."|
GIS technology is an integral part of Craven County Government's information systems framework which provides services to its citizens and employees.
Geographic Information Systems (GIS) provides interactive access to various information about a particular location. Information available includes school locations, tax assessor maps, tax appraisal values, soil types, orthophotography and Air Installation Compatible Use Zones (AICUZ) to name a few. Downloads of GIS data are available for Craven County and its municipalities in several different formats.
The text based Public Inquiry and GIS links are located on the Online Services page.
