ELECTIONS SYMPOSIUM - NC SBOE - MARCH 23, 2012
The Craven County Board of Elections operates under a three-member board that is appointed every two years. By law every county in the State has a County Board of Elections and not more than two members of the County Board can belong to the same political party. The Craven County Board of Elections has 3 full time employees and is located in the County Administration Building at 406 Craven Street, New Bern, North Carolina.
The County Board of Elections is State governed and County funded. The Office is responsible for all voter registration and elections in Craven County. The right to vote is the cornerstone of American freedom. Your vote counts!
You may register to vote in Craven County if you are a citizen of the United States, 18 years of age or older by the general election and a legal resident of Craven County for 30 days by the date of the election. Voter ID cards are mailed to all new voters and those who change their name, address or party affiliation.
Registration forms are available in all public libraries in the County. Citizens may also register or make changes to their registration through the Department of Motor Vehicles while they are obtaining or renewing a driver's license. Mail-in registration forms are available at the Board of Elections Office.
Once registered, a person is able to vote in the precinct in which he or she is registered until such time as they move out of that precinct. Persons moving from one location to another within the County may use the form on the back of their voter ID or contact the Elections Office to request a form. Registration books close 25 days prior to a given election.
