Originated as the Craven County Council on Women, this body worked to disseminate information on and relevant to women, and to increase public understanding of women's issues at its inception. Currently, the focus is on assisting victims of family violence and their families by providing direct services for victims of physical abuse, rape, sexual assault, child abuse, child sexual abuse and abuse survivors. In addition, there is work to provide education to prevent the cycle of abuse in future generations and to raise community awareness of the problem of family violence.
